CD Projekt Red plans to take Geralt on an entirely new adventure in 2027, introducing players to an unexplored part of the Witcher universe. During an interview at Lucca Comics & Games, published on November 3, the studio's level design lead Miles Tost and Songs of the Past writer Paula Meissner shared some early information about The Witcher 3's upcoming third expansion. The new DLC will feature a previously unseen territory known as Lettin, alongside fresh monsters and additional storylines, giving players another reason to revisit the RPG more than ten years after its original release.

Songs of the Past will become the third major expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, succeeding the previously released Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. According to CD Projekt Red, the upcoming content will introduce a completely new area for players to discover when it launches in 2027. The original game debuted on May 18, 2015, making its continued expansion support particularly remarkable for a single-player role-playing game.

Lettin is built on British aristocracy and Polish countryside

The newly revealed territory is named Lettin, which is the spelling used during the interview, despite some previous reports referring to it as "Letten." According to Tost, the region combines elements of British aristocratic culture with the distinctive atmosphere of traditional Polish rural communities. He explained that its noble society takes inspiration from Britain, while much of the surrounding environment reflects the landscapes and customs of the Polish countryside.

Local culture also plays an important role in shaping Lettin's identity, particularly through its food and beverages. Tost specifically mentioned Bracket, a honey-based beer associated with the region, as an important part of its worldbuilding. The expansion's newly showcased creature, the Swarmion, is also connected to this local environment. It has a strong attraction to honey and relies on hornets for defensive protection, creating an interesting connection between the monster and the region's natural resources.

A canon fix for Regis

Another important detail in Songs of the Past involves one of the franchise's most discussed characters. The expansion is expected to provide additional context surrounding Regis's appearance at the conclusion of Blood and Wine, addressing questions that have remained among fans. Tost explained that the story will clarify how the higher vampire managed to return, revealing that he initially recovered with only around 10 percent of his original strength after receiving assistance from another higher vampire.

Writer Paula Meissner also discussed the studio's approach to maintaining consistency across the Witcher universe. She revealed that CD Projekt Red has an internal lore team responsible for carefully monitoring details from Andrzej Sapkowski's original novels and the various games. This helps ensure that new storylines remain consistent with the established history and mythology of the franchise.

Songs of the Past is currently scheduled for release in 2027. However, CD Projekt Red has yet to reveal its official pricing, specific launch date, or the platforms that will support the upcoming expansion.
