S-GAME’s wuxia-inspired action RPG Phantom Blade Zero recorded a peak of 833,921 simultaneous players on Steam on November 1, according to SteamDB’s player statistics. This milestone came shortly after the game debuted on PC and PlayStation 5, placing it among the year's most successful PC game launches.

Steam’s Second-Largest Game Launch of 2026

Phantom Blade Zero reached its highest player count on the first Sunday following its release, securing the 14th position on Steam’s all-time concurrent player leaderboard, based on SteamDB data. Looking exclusively at 2026 releases, it currently holds second place, with Palworld leading the ranking after attracting 961,867 simultaneous players when it exited Early Access in July. These rankings may change as more major titles arrive, with SteamDB continuing to track updated player statistics.

Another notable achievement is the game's ability to maintain its audience. Before and after reaching its record, Phantom Blade Zero consistently attracted more than 700,000 concurrent Steam players per day. Such sustained activity is more commonly seen in multiplayer titles and live-service games than in traditional single-player RPGs. Since the game focuses on a story-driven single-player experience, its player numbers may gradually decrease as more users complete the campaign. However, its audience has remained relatively stable so far. It is also worth noting that PlayStation 5 player statistics have not been publicly disclosed, meaning the available figures represent only the PC community.

From 2D Rainblood to a Five-Year Evolution

Phantom Blade Zero serves as a spiritual successor to the Rainblood franchise, bringing a major technological transformation to the series. While the original Rainblood titles featured traditional 2D gameplay, the latest installment introduces a fully 3D experience powered by Unreal Engine 5. Production started in 2022, followed by the game's official announcement in 2023.

According to its Steam store listing, Phantom Blade Zero officially launched on October 28, 2026. However, some media reports identified October 29 as its release date. This one-day difference is most likely related to regional time zones and variations in local launch schedules.

Strong Reviews Match Its Impressive Player Numbers

As of November 4, Phantom Blade Zero had received approximately 90% positive reviews on Steam, earning the platform's "Very Positive" user rating. Its critical reception has also been encouraging. OpenCritic reports an average score of 88, with 95% of professional critics recommending the game. The Steam store listing displays the same Metascore of 88, further reflecting its positive reception among reviewers.
